| A large number of laptop users, especially businessmen, travellers and students, cannot imagine their life without the laptop. It is portable and can be taken aboard an aircraft to view business presentations or send/get messages from colleagues or business partners. Nonetheless, the laptops cannot operate day and night. Now and then its battery requires to be re-charged. Barely has anyone thought, when the first laptop battery was made and what it looked like.
In fact, the laptop battery has an exciting history. They have been updated and upgraded a lot of times, but they still have a long way ahead before they are perfect. When we think about laptop batteries, many of us consider the rechargeable ones that we deploy nowadays. Still, a few decades ago AA batteries were widely deployed in laptops. It took many AA batteries to run a laptop. Moreover, it could not run for long. Some laptop users remember the heavy-weight lead acid based batteries that did not only last long, but also made a laptop exceedingly heavy.
Since then the manufacture of laptop batteries has altered. Lighter nickel cadmium batteries (NiCd) substituted lead acid based ones. Still, these batteries were not deployed long, because nickel metal hydride batteries (also known as NiMH) were introduced. They lasted a lot longer and were lighter. Their main drawback was the so-called memory defect they had. If the battery had not discharged completely, it remembered it and put out less power than it should do.
When lithium ion batteries (LiON) appeared on the IT market, customers witnessed a tremendous progress in laptop batteries production. These batteries are much lighter than other laptop batteries and have not got any memory defect. They are used in technically advanced models.
Even though LiON batteries run for several hours non-stop, they need re-charging. As more and more people purchase laptops every year, the demand for longer lasting batteries is ever raising. There will surely be innovations until laptop batteries that do not require to be re-charged are made. No matter what you deploy your laptop for, you know that you require a long-lasting battery. You need to know that you can rely on the battery when you need your laptop most of all. |
